Fishing techniques are the methods involve in catching fish. Even though the term can be also applied for catching other aquatic animals such as molluscs, shellfish, squid…but mainly here we will focus on the methods of catching fish. We cannot talk about fishing techniques without talking about hand gathering, spearfishing, netting, angling and trapping.
It is all about picking shellfish by hand, keeping them off the beach and doing some digging for clams or crabs. In most cases, seafood can be found in coastal zones. In that technique, very little or no specialized equipment is required in order to gather to get fish.
This method has been known as an ancient one of fishing that has been used around the world. Before early civilizations were mostly making use of the custom of spearing fish from rivers and streams by using the sharpened sticks. But in nowadays, with modern spearfishing, people are using elastic powered spearguns and slings or compressed gas pneumatic powered spearguns in order to catch fish.
Netting or a hand net is mesh basket used by a hoop. This technique has been used since antiquity and mostly by fishing near the surface of the water. When using a long handle net that technique is called dip net. With this method, small fish are caught both in the shallow water and lagoons especially in the open sea.
